For the second Champions League game in succession, Salah was dropped to the bench as Liverpool tore apart Frankfurt on Wednesday night as they ended their four game losing streak.
The Egypt international was unstoppable for the Reds last season as he won the Golden Boot, but he has since had a drop in form that many fans have criticised him for. Salah has failed to register a goal contribution in his last five games in all competition, and many are worried about the winger.
Salah removed all mention of Liverpool from his social media channel's bios, including Instagram and X, pushing fans to believe that he has taken the criticsim to heart. Owen spoke this week and suggested that the 33-year-old is missing Alexander-Arnold who left in the summer.
"Salah has been scoring goals for years and years. Nobody would be surprised if he scored in his next game and went on a run. If there's anyone in the Premier League you shouldn't doubt, it's him. That said, if there's something more going on, then age could be a factor - he's 33 now.
“I retired at that age myself, so you can't go on forever. That's one possible reason. Another is that there's no Trent Alexander-Arnold feeding him those balls anymore - the dynamic has changed."
"Conor Bradley plays differently, he looks to run past Salah rather than serve him. I did some analysis on TV showing that Salah is picking up the ball about 10 per cent deeper on average than last season. The tactics haven't changed, but the personnel have.
“Or it could just be that the team isn't firing yet. Every attacking player goes through a spell like this. It's more likely just a blip, and he'll bounce back soon, but it could be a bit of all the above."
The winger was given 18 minutes as a second-half substitute against Frankfurt, with Liverpool already 5-1 up. His place in the side is slipping as he struggles to adapt to the new attack manager Arne Slot has produced in a worrying sign for the winger who could see more of the bench this season.
