In an interview with BR24, the Bavarian legend warned against escalating wage and transfer costs.
He began, "We cannot continue with constantly rising wages and transfer costs. This is not a serious way of working."
Rummenigge identifies the main problem with capital coming from outside investors: "In England, clubs are owned by multi-billionaires or even states, like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. This forces you to compete with enormous entities, even in the Champions League."
The former striker therefore proposes adjusting the financial rules: "The spending cap must be reduced from 70% to 60%, or even better, to 55% of wage and transfer revenue. Football cannot be the only industry in the world that systematically loses money."
Rummenigge calls for a shared dialogue between clubs, players, and agents: "We need a shared solution. We can't continue with the 'always more' mentality. Everyone needs to sit down and seriously discuss the future. If the money runs out, they always look for new competitions or expand the calendar, but this is no longer sustainable."
