Woltemade moved to Newcastle for a fee that has since been confirmed at €75M this summer as they desperately tried to replace Alexander Isak who forced his way to Liverpool before the transfer window slammed shut.
The Magpies signed the forward from Stuttgart in a club record deal as they fended off Bayern Munich for the young striker who scored once more against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.
The Bavarians launched several bids, the last of which was worth around €60M which wasn’t enough to secure his services. Speaking with Blickpunkt Spor, Rummenigge ripped into the Premier League side and their spending.
"I can only congratulate them in Stuttgart for finding, so to speak, an idiot who would pay that much money, because we certainly wouldn't have done that.
"I said: We're coming in on a scale that I no longer find acceptable. We shouldn't meet all of their demands."
Woltemade had arrived at Newcastle on a six-year deal after an impressive season at Stuttgart, where he had bagged 17 goals in 33 matches in all competitions. He has proven to be impressive so far and Bayern will be watching him as his price only increases.
