Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has heaped praise on to Luis Diaz after his impressive performances in preseason.

Diaz is more prepared than anyone else

Colombian winger Diaz joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool in a £66M deal earlier this summer in what was a shock move for the 28 year old who was much loved on Merseyside. Diaz impressed Kompany with his fitness and focus, playing 76 minutes in Bayern 4-0 demolition of Tottenham in a friendly this week and admits that he is far ahead of most of the squad.

"He's the most advanced of all physically and mentally. He had a very good preseason with Liverpool. He was already training three weeks ahead of us."

Bayern have serious injury issues

Kompany then opene up about Bayern’s current squad depth and injury situation ahead of their first Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig which is a tough first test for his side.

"I've always said: We have so much talent, the most important thing is that the boys are fit. At the moment we're missing Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, (Hiroki) Ito and now – hopefully not for long – (Aleksandar) Pavlovic. We can also make many steps when the boys come back."

New faces are needed

Kompany was also asked about his transfer wishes following Bayern's win, and the Belgian was totally focused on his existing squad as he continues to struggle in the transfer market.

"In a healthy club, people communicate daily, and that's certainly the case with us. We're always communicating, not just about the squad. But everyone has their role. For me the only important thing is that this squad performs as best as possible," Kompany told Magenta TV

The Bavarians face Grasshoppers Zurich in a friendly on Tuesday before meeting Stuttgart in the DFL-Supercup final next Saturday. Diaz will be crucial to their success next season but it is evident that Bayern need more signings to build a squad that are certain to defend their league title on paper.
