Chukwuemeka, who moved for £20M from Aston Villa in 2022, remains surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge as the Blues hope to sell the youngster this summer. Reports state that Chelsea are ready to lower their asking price for the English midfielder to around €25M which has enticed Dortmund to make a move for him this summer with a bid expected very soon.
Having lost Jamie Gittens to the Blues earlier this summer, the Bundesliga giants have also shortlisted Brighton youngster Buonanotte who they see as a potential straight replacement. Buonanotte was on loan at Leicester City last season and faces stiff competition this season for a place if he is to break into the Seagulls squad.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler briefly commented on his future earlier this season and suggested that he could have a place in his Brighton side.
“He showed some good performances in training and also the games. Let’s see how the situation will develop.”
If the Club World Cup champions would consider offloading the 20-year-old for a cut-price €25M then Dortmund would likely not move for Buonanotte and would be happy to make Chukwuemeka’s move permanent. The Chelsea midfielder scored one goal in 17 appearances for BVB during his six-month loan spell and alongside new signing and compatriot Jobe Bellingham they could prove to be a real force in the German first division.
