Borussia Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken has spoken on Nico Schlotterbeck's future as transfer interest grows.

According to journalist David Lynch, Schlotterbeck is a name high on the list of the Anfield recruitment team as the future of Ibrahima Konate comes under question.

“There is nothing concrete, but Schlotterbeck is definitely liked,” Lynch explained. “Upamecano I am a little bit sceptical about, but Schlotterbeck is one they have watched and appreciate. I think that will be one for the summer rather than January.”

Reports claim that Dortmund have offered him an extension, but since the German isn’t happy with the wage on offer he is open to leaving and Liverpool is said to be his ideal destination once the season is over.

Now, Ricken has opened up on the defender’s future, which is looking ever likely to be away from the Bundesliga.

“It is his absolute right to plan his future carefully. We respect that. And I believe that the focus should not be on salary, but on prospects, trust and conviction.

“We will not rush into anything. But of course, we don't want to drag it out indefinitely, everyone is aware of that."

The 25 year old has a contract running until 2027 and would reportedly cost £50M if a transfer were to happen. When questioned about Bayern's interest in him while he was on international duty with Germany last week, Schlotterbeck added: "I can't really say anything about that” as he remains elusive about a potential deal.
