Dick Advocaat has resigned as Curacao coach just three months before the World Cup.

The Dutchman had guided Curacao to their first ever appearance at the World Cup finals this summer.

But it was announced this morning that the former Rangers and PSV coach had resigned. The 78-year-old coach has decided to devote his full attention to his daughter, who is struggling with health issues.

"I've always said that family comes before football," Advocaat said. "This is therefore a natural decision.

"That said, I will greatly miss Curaçao, its people, and my colleagues.  I consider the world's smallest nation's qualification for the World Cup one of the most significant moments of my career.

"I'm proud of my players, staff, and board members who believed in us."
