The World Cup-winning forward is under contract at the Spanish club until 2030 after joining from Manchester City in 2024.
But it doesn't appear he will see out the remaining four years of his contract at Atletico, as El Chiringuito reports that the 26-year-old has decided to leave this summer.
Alvarez is no longer happy at the club and will not renew his contract. Barcelona is a dream move for the Argentine international, but Arsenal, PSG and other European giants have registered an interest.
Speaking about his future, manager Diego Simeone said: “His future? He’s old enough to know what he wants to do and I imagine he has already made his decision”.
Alvarez plundered 20 goals in all competitions this term, and if he's successful at another World Cup, his price will surely be driven even higher.
