The 31-year-old recently completed a permanent move to Trabzonspor from Championship side Southampton, having impressed during his loan spell last season.
“Due to the impact, intense edema was detected in Onuachu’s left ankle bones and partial injury to his ankle ligaments. Our medical team has begun treatment,” the club wrote.
His absence means he is likely to miss the club’s opening fixtures of the new campaign against Kocaelispor, Kasimpasa, Antalyaspor, and Samsunspor.
The injury comes as a setback for both Onuachu and Trabzonspor, who were hoping for a strong start with the Nigerian striker leading the line.
The club will be hoping for a swift recovery as they look to build momentum early in the season.
