Wilfried Zaha has left Charlotte FC and will return to his parent club Galatasaray during Major League Soccer’s World Cup break, he confirmed on Sunday.

The forward’s year-long loan had been extended until June 30, but with Charlotte not returning to action until mid-July, the Ivorian has departed early.

His exit also comes after he was omitted from Ivory Coast’s World Cup squad.

“The moment has come to say goodbye but I just wanted to thank Charlotte, the city, for welcoming me and my family with open arms and allowing me to fall in love with the game again. There’s been many highs and many lows but it’s about the journey in the end and I loved every minute,” Zaha wrote on Instagram.

Zaha’s spell in MLS proved mixed as the former Crystal Palace winger egistered 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 appearances.
