Tuchel will cut a 55-man provisional squad down by more than half this week in what a choice that will never please everyone ahead of this summer’s competition.
Leaks have already come out revealing that Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Phil Foden will miss the call-up after a dire run of form for their respective clubs.
There have also been several players named as guaranteed for Tuchel’s side including huge names such as Harry Kane, Jordan Pickford, Declan Rice, Elliot Anderson, Jordan Henderson, Morgan Rogers and Marcus Rashford.
Now, as per David Ornstein, Tuchel is set to make a hard call on his defensive structure as he omits Real Madrid star Alexander-Arnold.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold not named in England squad for 2026 World Cup. Real Madrid right-back absent from recent squads & misses out on #2026FIFAWorldCup. Djed Spence rewarded for Tottenham Hotspur & #ENG form with Tuchel selection.”
Spence, who broke his jaw while playing against Chelsea on Tuesday night, is set to be called up ahead of the former Liverpool defender who has struggled to find his feet in the Spanish capital.
Tuchel tested out two other options across the March internationals in Tino Livramento and Ben White but is set to call up Spence who has impressed with Tottenham despite the club’s poor season.
Spence can play on the right or left-hand side of defence and could be a versatile option for Tuchel whose squad will be announced soon.
