Tim Sherwood has urged Thomas Tuchel to select Phil Foden for his England squad at the World Cup.

Foden has endured a bitterly disappointing campaign at the Etihad Stadium, but the 25-year-old was on top form during Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

He grabbed two assists, including a sumptuous back heel pass for Antoine Semenyo to open the scoring, and then provided the through ball for Omar Marmoush.

A performance of that class has arguably come at the perfect time for Foden, who is trying to force his way into Tuchel's plans for the World Cup

The City academy graduate has notoriously struggled on the international stage, with Gareth Southgate and Tuchel struggling to find a spot in their team.

But former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood is adamant that he's selected for the squad, and even said he would get into his starting lineup.

“I would find it very difficult not to put him in my team, let alone to put him on the plane. He has to be on the plane, he would be in my team, I would find a place for him," Sherwood said on Sky Sports.

"No one plays better in these areas than Phil Foden, he’s got wing mirrors, he sees things before they come. If you asked Harry Kane who do you want to play behind you, he’d say Phil Foden please."

England have incredible competition for places in the number 10 role, with Morgan Rogers, Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Foden and potentially Morgan Gibbs-White all potentially battling for the starting spot.
