England are certainly fancied among the favourites to lift the famous trophy this summer as they head into the tournament under the management of Thomas Tuchel.

The Three Lions famously have not won the World Cup since 1966 and could end that wait this year as generations of fans pray to see their national side finally go all the way once again.

Now, speaking to Betfair, Shearer has weighed in on England’s chances of lifting the World Cup which he says are strong considering their sheer quality.

“I believe England can win the World Cup. When you look at our talent, when you look at the players fighting for positions, then yeah.

“If you go through the squad, then yeah, England have got a really, really good chance to win it. But then, so have France, so have Spain alongside others who will be thinking that they're the same as well.

France have got a huge amount of talent and Spain have got a ridiculous amount of talent as well. As have Portugal. They'll all be seeing what we're seeing and obviously clearly only one can win it, but we go into it with a real proper chance here.”

England’s tournament opener gets underway on June 17th when Tuchel’s side takes on old foes Croatia in Dallas, Texas.

Anything less than a semi-final spot likely to be viewed as a major disappointment for England who have very high expectations heading into the competition.
