Kane finished 13th in the 2025 Ballon d’Or voting last season after scoring 44 goals in 45 games for Bayern Munich, while also leading the Three Lions to the final of Euro 2024.
The England captain, who has netted 23 times in 17 appearances this term, is in the form of his life. However, the former Tottenham striker has admitted that goals are irrelevant to the Ballon d’Or as voting is judged on trophies won.
This means he may never come close to winning it before he retires, much like other world-class players like Erling Haaland.
“I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or.
“It’s the same with Erling Haaland, it’s the same with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies. With the way the season is going as a team with Bayern Munich, it looks like we’re in great shape.
“It looks like we’re one of the favourites for the Champions League, for sure. So that maybe makes the odds a little bit more in my favour. Same with England. I think we’re going to go into the tournament as one of the favourites.”
Kane believes winning next summer's World Cup could be his golden ticket for the Ballon d'Or, much like when City’s Rodri won in 2024 thanks to Spain’s Euro victory. A Champions League victory would also help as long as Kane can keep his goal scoring form up.
The 32-year-old has rattled in 23 goals across 17 games so far this season, and many feel a major trophy at the end of the season would be enough to make him the first English Ballon d’Or winner since 2001.
