After failing to qualify for the last two World Cups in 2018 and 2022, the Azzurri are preparing for a World Cup play-off semi-final against Northern Ireland.
The winners of the tie will take on Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31st March for a place at this summer's tournament across the US, Mexico, and Canada.
Four-time world champions Italy will be aiming to end their wait to return to the biggest stage as Gattuso is tasked with lifting spirits and a squad who have massively underperformed in recent years.
Ahead of their qualifier, GOAL have reported that Gattuso has been very busy watching as many games as possible to make sure he picks the perfect squad that can lead the nation back to the World Cup.
As per GOAL and statistics provided by the FIGC press office, Gattuso has attended:
259 Serie A matches.
32 matches across foreign leagues (25 in the Premier League, 3 in the Carabao Cup, 1 in La Liga, 1 in the Saudi Pro League, 1 in the Qatar Stars League).
15 Coppa Italia matches.
3 Italian Super Cup matches in Saudi Arabia.
9 international matches for opposing national teams (Moldova, Estonia, Norway and Hungary).
As well as 62 matches in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
Gattuso has had spells with the likes of Palermo, OFI, Pisa, Milan, Valencia, Marseille and Hajduk Split and has managed 10 clubs in 12 years in what has been a busy spell for the Italian. Italy have not qualified for a World Cup since 2014 and he could make history over the next few weeks as the nation turn to him for answers.
