Pep Guardiola is under contract at Manchester City until June 2027 as reports claim he will depart this summer.

Guardiola has just claimed another trophy in the form of the Carabao Cup in what could be his final piece of silverware in the North West as reports claim he wants to depart the side.

Now, according to talkSPORT, City have formally asked Guardiola whether he plans to see out his current deal as they plan for next season where they could be without the Spaniard for the first time in several years.

The Mirror claim figures such as sporting director Hugo Viana still don't know whether the 55-year-old will remain in his post come the end of this season in what is a huge worry for the side.

In 2024, Guardiola himself admitted he was “closer to leaving than staying” before signing a contract extension. He also reminded reporters that “I won’t be here forever” as he teases leaving.

Sources indicate that Enzo Maresca has emerged as one of the leading candidates under consideration if Guardiola does step down, having been in charge since the summer of 2016.

Maresca, who departed Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day after just 18 months in charge, previously coached City’s U21 side and is reportedly admired by the City board who could contact the Italian over the coming months.

talkSPORT report Guardiola has always been given freedom to make up his own mind about his future as they await his decision with just seven Premier League games remaining.
