England maintained their perfect record in World Cup qualifying by beating Serbia on Thursday night despite already qualifying for next year’s competition in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford broke the record for keeping the most clean sheets in a row for England, he took the record from legendary goalkeeper Gordon Banks, who set it with eight in 1966.
However, an even more impressive could be made if the Three Lions manage to fend off Albania this weekend in a record that may never be broken.
England would become the first European nation ever to complete an eight-game World Cup qualifying campaign without letting in a goal if they tighten up their defence against an Albania side at the Arena Kombetare in Tirana, a 22,500-seater stadium which is the largest in Albania.
Albania are already guaranteed to finish second in Group K behind the perfect Three Lions, and may not have the drive needed to break down England’s tight-knit defence.
England may also set a new national team record for consecutive competitive victories with their 11th in a row, having equalled their all-time best of 10 against Serbia.
