Chelsea striker Joao Pedro believed he had missed out on the Brazil squad for their upcoming friendlies.

Brazil face France and Croatia later this month in their friendlies leading up to this summer’s World Cup where the South American side are one of the favourites to lift the competition once again.

Brentford striker Igor Thiago and Bournemouth winger Rayan have received first call-ups to the Brazil squad whilst the country’s top scorer was left out entirely by manager Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti named his 26-man squad for their March internationals live on Brazilian channel Panela SporTV but only named 25 players which did not include Pedro

Pedro has 11 goals in his last 14 games and director Rodrigo Caetano quickly informed Ancelotti that the striker was involved but has been skipped over by the Italian.

The Chelsea star spoke on the blunder and laughed it off as his friends and family congratulated him.

"It always feels like the first time (to be called up) those butterflies in the stomach.

"And then when he (Ancelotti) finished the list I said to myself: 'Damn! I've been left out!!'

"Then everyone started calling me, I didn't know what was happening... then I came back and thought: "Damn, I'm in, I'm in!

"I'm very happy. I'm in a really special moment in my life at the moment as well, and now let's go all out to beat France and Croatia."

Pedro is one of the best strikers on the planet at the moment and it would have been shocking to see him miss out. He will be the first name on the team sheet ahead of the World Cup as long as he can keep his form up.
