As reports link Fernandez with a move away from West London to the likes of Real Madrid, the midfielder has given an honest interview about the mental side of football, something many fans forget about.
As revealed by GOAL, the former Benfica star admitted to seeking professional mental health support merely months before lifting the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
“I started seeing a psychologist three months before the World Cup. It changed my life.
“You start to express yourself, to talk to someone about what’s happening to you, what you feel, what you do on a daily basis, and what happens to me when I feel that way."
"I started with coaching in group sessions, and then we met to do individual sessions. It helped me a lot to develop awareness; I started feeling much better over time, and today I can't give it up."
"I’m taking this opportunity to tell kids to be aware that there’s a solution for everything, that they can talk to professionals.”
After making 46 appearances across all competitions for The Blues, Fernandez has scored 12 goals and bagged six assists in what has been a disasterous season for the club.
As another World Cup approaches and stories circle the playmaker, Fernandez may be looking for more support in the final stretch of the season as pressure weighs down on him from all sides.
