Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that he feels for Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo.

A five game unbeaten run dissolved in a 1-0 defeat to 10 men Everton on Monday night, and now United are sat in 10th place, far off a top four spot.

There were ovations from the Old Trafford fans when Kobbie Mainoo was brought on in the 58th minute against the Toffees, after what has been a tough time for the England international, who rarely gets a chance under Amorim

Zirkzee, who has had similar troubles, played the entire match against Everton due to the amount of injuries to the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

Both players have had very limited minutes, and Amorim spoke this week about how he understands their frustrations ahead of next year’s World Cup.

"I was a football player.

"I understand everything, and I want to help my players in every situation. I understand the frustration of some players, seeing the World Cup is there. I know what it means.

"But the first thing is that the club comes first. If I can help the club and the players, I will be happy. If not I have to think about the team."

United are expected to sign at least one central midfielder next summer, pushing Mainoo out of the side. Zirkzee is also set to leave, with reports linking him back to the Serie A as both players wait for the transfer window to open.
