UEFA had been preparing to decide on Israel’s potential ban, with The Times reporting that “a large majority of executive members and federations are in favour of suspension.”
Russia suffered a similar fate following their invasion of Ukraine and were banned in 2022, and with the UN Commission finding that Israel have committed geocide in Gaza, calls for UEFA to ban them became too loud to ignore.
According to Sky News, the vote has now been delayed in the wake of US president Donald Trump coming up with a new peace plan.
Israel are currently slated to play their 2026 World Cup qualifiers in October, facing Norway in Oslo and Italy in Udine. If no vote is held, the fixtures will proceed as scheduled.
