The club announced on Sunday evening: "The entire Cesena FC family is thrilled to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and extends a warm welcome to him and his staff in Cesena, wishing them all the best of luck in this new adventure."
Cole leaves his England U21 assistant coaching post to move to Italy. He has held similar positions with Derby, Everton and Birmingham City.
Cole replaces former coach Michele Mignani, who was removed from his position on Friday.
Cesena are eighth in Serie B after failing to win any of their last seven games, losing four and drawing three.
