The Brazilian wing-back says he appreciates the management of Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Wesley told TNT Sports Brasil: "When the €20 million offer arrived and I wasn't even playing, I thought: 'These guys are crazy'. €20 million and I wasn't even playing, and when I was playing I'd misplace a pass in front of the cameras.
"Then I asked myself: How can they pay €20 million for me? Flamengo accepted and all this chaos happened. At that point I realised there was no way I could stay here, I wasn't well, no one wanted me anymore. Then I saw that Gasperini had gone to Roma. When I heard about it, I thought: Damn, he really wants me.
"So everything went well with Roma. Once I got there, even the coach surprised me with the way he's making me work. I hope to grow a lot, obviously it will take time: I won't become Dani Alves overnight, that's impossible. But I know it will take time. And I feel that when a coach wants a player so much, it affects you. Because he called me, he spoke to me.
"There were other offers, yes, but a coach who calls you, who already wanted you last year, then goes to another club and wants you again... that weighed heavily. I just hope to grow with him, like all the players he had at Atalanta."
