After last term's meltdown against PSG in the final, Veron is convinced the Nerazzurri will prioritise going one better this term.
"I don't know (Cristian) Chivu," he began, "so I can't judge his work from afar. Coaching Inter is certainly not easy for anyone; experience on the bench only counts up to a certain point. What matters, however, are quality and personality.
"Cristian will be judged on results, as is the case with all coaches. Lautaro (Martinez) returns late from international duty, and (Hakan) Calhanoglu is feeling down? As for Lautaro, he can always invent something even if he's not at his best. And Calhanoglu remains a great midfielder."
Then on Inter's goals and his relationship with vice-president Javier Zanetti, the Estudiantes president also told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I don't hear from him very often, so I have no idea what's going on there. On the other hand, a team like Inter must always believe it can win.
"It's not always possible—for example, last season they ended without a title after coming close to winning the Scudetto and the Champions League—but ambition is crucial. I think the real goal is still the Champions League, after losing two finals. But it's tough, because in Europe there are so many obstacles to overcome."
