Rino Gattuso has resigned as Italy coach today, with an announcement from FIGC now due.
Gattuso leaves the post after this week's World Cup playoff defeat in Bosnia, where the Azzurri lost on penalties. It means Italy have now missed the past three World Cup finals.
Ulivieri told Tutto Napoli as it broke that Gattuso had resigned: "The criticism? We coaches are used to it.
"Gattuso worked well, both technically and tactically. But above all, he restored cohesion and love for the Azzurri shirt: this is an important aspect."
On who can replace Gattuso, he added: "We need a selector who can choose the most suitable players, considering the limited time available. The championship never stops, and this has an impact."
