AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is set to leave the club as a free agent with Chelsea reportedly leading the race to sign him despite a late contract push.

Chelsea were interested in the 30-year-old over the summer but were unwilling to match AC Milan’s £25 million asking price.

Maignan’s current deal with the Italian giants is set to expire at the end of the season, with talks over a new contract not going anywhere.

According to a report from CalcioMercato, AC Milan have failed to come good on a €5 million offer that was promised to Maignan months ago.

Despite the roadblock, sporting director Igli Tare still intends to reopen dialogue with Maignan’s agents, but the gap between the two parties remains significant.

The France international will be able to negotiate a ‘pre-agreement’ with foreign clubs from January 1st if he doesn’t sign a new deal before then.
