The 28-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal debut season with the Italian giants following his Old Trafford departure last summer in a £25M deal which looks like a bargain for Napoli who have brought out the best in the Scotland international.
McTominay played a key role in helping Napoli to their fourth Serie A title as he scored 13 goals and provided six assists in just 36 appearances. Now, according to the Daily Mail and journalist Sam C, the midfielder has been been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or which is a huge honour.
McTominay was named Serie A’s MVP for his efforts in midfield as he linked up for another former Manchester United player in Romelu Lukaku who has thrived in Italy since his departure, scoring 14 last season. McTominay was crowned the Serie A Player of the Year and his nomination is another example of United players leaving and finding their feet elsewhere.
This is his first nomination which he likely never thought would come about after leaving United where many believed he had reached his peak. Current United manager Ruben Amorim was not in charge of the sale but he will hold his head in his hands as the Scotsman is exactly what his side have been looking for in the middle of the park for some time.
