Inter won 3-2, with Juve fullback Pierre Kalulu sent off in the first-half for two yellow cards. His second was for a foul on Alessandro Bastoni, who clearly dived to win the foul. However, due to VAR only being able to intervene in Italy for a direct red card, referee Federico La Penna's decision stood.
Mauro told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "I'd say Chivu is the person who disappointed me the most. The referee can make mistakes, the player can fake, but I was following the coach.
"I really liked his sermons over the last two months, and he had a historic opportunity to give meaning to those words, that is, to say 'Bastoni faked and then made the mistake of asking for the red card and celebrating.'
"Instead, he spoke badly of Kalulu, saying that 'he should have kept his hands to himself.' So honestly, I was disheartened hearing those things, after two months of following him, thinking I'd finally found a coach who talks about sports."
