Cristiano Ronaldo has laughed off comments that he will score his 1000th goal in the World Cup final.

Ronaldo has scored 953 goals for club and country throughout his illustrious career so far, outscoring any other player on the planet. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who turns 41 in February, would like to hit the 1000 goal mark before the World Cup if he keeps up his goal scoring momentum, which is incredible for a veteran of the game.

A World Cup winner is ridiculous

The Portuguese icon is chasing down, 1000th career goals, something that only a handful of players have achieved. Asked whether his 1,000th goal could help him lift the World Cup next year, Ronaldo laughed off the question and said it is not realistic.

“You've been watching too many movies, that would be too perfect. Getting back to reality, all this data makes me happy. A national team never depends on one player, but I like being able to make a difference with goals.

“It's always good to score goals, that's my position. I want to play in this next World Cup, otherwise I wouldn't be here, but let's take it step by step. If that happened, it would be a good sign, I'd end my career on a high note.”

Ancelotti believes 1000 is more than possible

Ronaldo signed a contract with Al-Nassr until 2027 and shows no sign of letting up as he chases down what is almost an impossible target. Brazil boss and former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he believes it is possible, however, even if the goal may not be as fairytale like a World Cup winner.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will reach 1,000 goals, for sure!”

“But when he does, he shouldn't forget to invite me to the celebration of that incredible record”.

Ronaldo's retirement plans?

Asked earlier this season about retirement, Ronaldo suggested that as long as he is scoring, he will keep playing.

"People, especially my family, say: 'It's time for you to stop. You've done everything. Why do you want to score a thousand goals?" Ronaldo told Canal 11.

"But I don't think so. I think I'm still producing good things, I'm helping my club and the national team, and why not keep going?

"I'm sure that when I finish, I'll be fulfilled, because I gave it my all. I know I don't have many more years, but the few I have, I try to enjoy to the fullest."
