FIFA have unveiled radical new World Cup laws ahead of the World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada this summer as they try and improve the flow of the tournament.
Whilst VAR is now able to review red cards that result from a wrongful second booking, mistaken identity involving a second yellow card, and also intervene if a corner kick has been wrongly awarded instead of a goal kick, it is set pieces that many fans are focused on.
A new rule will see players penalised for obstructing or preventing an opponent from playing the ball at free kicks and corners. Originating from basketball, the law will try and stop players acting as blockers.
The Daily Mail reports that England's goal against Uruguay in the two sides' friendly clash in March in which Three Lions players blocked their opponents, was used as a case study for the rule change.
This also comes after a controversial season in which the Gunners scored 25 set piece goals in the Premier League. These goals came from wrestling in the box that many fans felt was destroying the beautiful game.
As the rule is brought in, many teams may now have to change their tactics as Arsenal’s corner style was copied across the Premier League as it grew in success this season amongst teams up and down the table.
