Yoane Wissa says scoring a first goal for Newcastle United was a dream come true.

Now nearing full match fitness after suffering a knee injury with DR Congo just days after signing from Brentford, Wissa scored in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal win against Fulham.

Wissa reflected on that night, stating: "I was dreaming about it a couple of months ago and now I've got my first goal with this shirt. It's so special for me. This is where I wanted to be and where I needed to be and add a tap-in so quite happy with the goal.

"It's my story. No story is a straight line. I really wanted to score earlier but, unfortunately, I was injured. I came back from the injury and had intense work with the medical staff so that goal is for them.

"I worked hard with them and want to thank them deeply because it's not easy. I'm quite happy today."

Ahead of today's clash with Chelsea, Wissa is hoping to keep his starting place.

He added, "The confidence is definitely higher. Now we've won, we move on. We need to enjoy tonight, rest tomorrow and look forward to Saturday's game.

"This is where we need to be and what to focus on to beat Chelsea and get another three points at home."
