West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta is set to be free to continue his career with betting case verdict imminent.

Paqueta has been under investigation since August 2023 and was charged by the FA in May 2024 for allegedly getting booked deliberately "for the improper purpose of affecting the betting market". He was charged by the FA with four counts of spot-fixing and two of obstructing an FA investigation but is now set to be free to continue his career ahead of the new season.

After scoring for West Ham in their 2-1 win over Everton in pre-season, Paqueta, took to X with a simple post of him celebrating as he pointed to the sky and put one hand on his chest. The post was accompanied by the word God and a heart emoji in what was a defiant first post since the charges were put on him.

The FA has been seeking a lifetime ban for Paqueta but indications are that scenario has been avoided and after being charged by the FA last year, Paqueta had said he was "extremely surprised and upset" by the charges which shocked many Hammers fans.

The Brazilian scored four goals in 33 Premier League appearances for West Ham during in 24-25 and will prove vital to manager Graham Potter in the new campaign as the side chase down a spot in Europe. Official confirmation of Paqueta's innocence of the betting charges has not yet come from the FA but are expected soon according to reports.
