Brighton scored three times in the final 25 minutes to earn the 3-1 win.
Welbeck later said: "Brilliant. Everybody is ecstatic in the dressing room. To go one down and show a great reaction like that great character from the team.
"You have got to look after the younger players. I am enjoying the role, and I am looking forward to producing many more important moments on and off the pitch as well.
"Every single player wants to play, but when you're on the bench at Brighton we have an environment where every single player has a part to play.
"When you do come off the bench you want to make an impact. It is a brotherhood, and you have got to push everybody along."
On feeling 'brand new', Welbeck smiled: "I wouldn't call it brand new. I am feeling good, feeling fit and strong. I have worked hard every single day really, in training sessions.
"Throughout preseason, the off-season too, keeping yourself in the best shape possible. I am blessed with good genes from my mum and dad too, which helps me tick along too!"
