Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas insists he's happy for Viktor Gyokeres over his move to Arsenal.

The former Sporting striker has begun his Gunners career impressively, having already scored his first goals for the club.

And while there was some bitterness between player and club in his final days at Sporting, Varandas now states: "I managed to earn 90 million euros and did not pay a penny in commission.

"What is important to me is to have a stronger group. We lost Viktor, who is a legend at this club, a player who left lasting memories and was one of the best players in our history. We lost him and invested 44 million euros in two strikers.

"And today's first striker is much better prepared than last year's reserve striker, Harder. A young man with huge potential who had expectations of being a starter, which is perfectly legitimate."

Varandas insists that there is no evil blood between him and Gyökeres.

He continued on CNN Portugal, "I sent him a message congratulating him. Viktor will always be a legend at this club, and as president of Sporting, I will always defend the club's legends. Viktor was one of the best professionals to play here until the end of the season. He is a Sporting legend and one of the best players in Sporting's history."
