The Welsh international started his career at with local sides Locomotive Llanberis and Caernarfon Town, alongside working at a slate quarry, before joining Wrexham. He then moved to Bolton Wanderers before joining the Magpies where he won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, later known as the UEFA Cup, in 1969.
He then joined the likes of Manchester City, United, Blackpool, Crewe Alexandra and a host of other clubs in what was a fruitful career. The 6ft 1in forward represented Wales 34 times, scoring six goals and was often nicknamed “Wyn the Leap” due to his height.
Niece Kasey Allsup paid tribute to her uncle who was an inspiration to many, including England legend Bryan Robson.
"Rest in peace, Uncle Ronald Wyn Davies.
"A Welsh legend, and our family’s pride. You’ll be missed more than words can say. Thank you for the memories, the inspiration, and the love."
Newcastle also paid tribute to their former player paid a then club record £80,000 fee for him in 1966.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former player, Wyn Davies at the age of 83.
‘Wyn the Leap’ made over 200 appearances for the club and was part of our 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup winning side.
"Our thoughts are with Wyn’s family and friends at this sad time."
Finally, the Football Association of Wales added a brief statement paying their respects.
“The thoughts of everyone at the FAW are with the family and friends of Wyn Davies during this difficult time.”
