Frank, now Tottenham manager, has revealed that he had talks with the two clubs on the same day in May 2024 in what was one of the most surreal and chaotic moments in his career so far.
Frank told TV 2 Sport ahead of the release of his book, which is titled ‘Thomas Frank – Diary from the Premier League: The story of Denmark's greatest coaching name’ about the day which was a momentous point in his time as an up-and-coming head coach.
"Sitting down to talk to two of the ten biggest clubs in the world (Chelsea and Man Utd) – two hours apart – is quite unique," Frank said.
"I know I didn't get either job, but it was still huge. I remember walking through Battersea Park between the two interviews and thinking: 'Thomas Frank from f****** Frederiksvaerk - am I really experiencing this'?"
United eventually appointed Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag's successor whilst Chelsea appointed Enzo Maresca as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino, who lasted just over 300 days in charge.
The 52-year-old Danish coach, who was still managing Brentford at the time, was one of the most wanted names in football after helping the Bees to a 10th place finish. Flash forward to modern day and he is in charge of Spurs as they chase down European football once more.
He managed seasons at Brentford, including overseeing their promotion to the Premier League in 2021, and has won eight of his 18 matches in charge of Tottenham so far this term.
