Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has addressed the media ahead of this weekend's clash with Leeds United.

The two teams face one another this Saturday for the first time since May 2023 when Spurs picked up a 4-1 top-flight victory thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Pedro Porro and Lucas Moura

Frank over the moon with Bentancur's new deal

Rodri Bentancur signed a new long term contract extension on Friday morning as he committed his future to the side. Frank smiled as he spoke on his new deal.

“It's fantastic news that the club have managed to first extend Romero's contract, but now also Rodri Bentancur's contract. I think that's a big sign that both of them believe in the project and the future here and hopefully the fantastic journey we are going to be on together.

“I think that's a big, big signal. It would be the easiest thing in the world for Rodri to run out his contract and do something different. So I think that's a fantastic signal to the fans, to everyone.

“And of course, I'm extremely happy that we managed to sign him. I think he's a top player, and he's been a top player for Tottenham. I also think we can get even more out of him, and there's an even higher level in him.”

Elland Road will be difficult

Leeds have won two, drawn two, and lost two of their opening six Premier League fixtures since securing promotion as Championship title winners last season and Frank believes Elland Road could be very tricky for his side.

"I think Leeds have done very well since they have got promoted.

"Elland Road is one of the best games to go to because the atmosphere is always great.

"Clearly, they have been very good at home. They give very little away in open play.

"It could be 90 minutes back and forth."

Team news

Frank next gave some crucial team news, including updates on defender Romero and striker Dominic Solanke who has been out for several weeks.

"Romero is fit and available and he will start tomorrow. That's positive. It was contact to the foot. The medical staff did well with the turnaround.

"Dom the minor procedure went well and Kolo Muani has been on the pitch the past two days so that's a positive. He will not be available. He is not in the squad.

"Kota (Takai) is better and better. He has trained fully with the team for a week to 10 days."

Planning for the January transfer window

Finally, questions turned to the January transfer window and revealed that the club will soon start to discuss their plans to improve the side for the future.

"To be fair it goes quick. Everyone is well-organised. They will probably a week after the window shuts or two weeks maximum, they will start preparing the next following windows. So of course Vinai and Johan are on top of that, preparing that.

"We of course will have a meeting relatively soon where we will start to talk about it and progress the plannings from there."
