Sunderland striker Luis Hemir has joined Moreirense FC on loan for the season in the first of many departures.

Hemir joined Sunderland in the summer of 2023 and made 23 appearances in his first season, where he failed to find the back of the net. The 22-year-old will spend the full campaign with the Portuguese side who have started their campaign with three wins from three under manager Vasco Botelho da Costa.

Kristjaan Speakman, Sunderland's sporting director spoke on the move and revealed how the club wanted to find the perfect club for Hemir so he can develop into a asset for the first team in the future.

“Throughout the summer, we have been searching to identify the best loan opportunity for Hemir. 

"We feel this is the right club and environment for him to take the next step in his career, and we wish him well for the season ahead.” 

The likes of Abdoullah Ba, Nazariy Rusyn, Ian Poveda and Timothee Pembele are among those available to leave. Midfielder Alan Browne could still depart before the end of the transfer window also as manager Régis Le Bris streamlines his squad.
