Defeat at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday was a sixth in the Premier League for the title holders and has left them sitting eleventh on the table.
Asked if he can put his finger on a root cause for this season's slide, Warnock told Tribalfootball.com: "Well, I think there's been a few. I think there's been inconsistency of players' performances. I don't think they quite hit the levels that they hit last season. I think when you think of the performances of (Ryan) Gravenberch and (Alexis) Mac Allister, I think they've dropped off. I think the protection that they've given the defence hasn't quite been the same.
"That's from standards just dropped from last year. Who knows? I'm not too sure. I think if you think of Mohamed Salah's form last year and the way he's played, the goals have dried up. I think we haven't seen the performances from him. And then obviously, (Ibrahima) Konate in the centre-back position. I don't think he's been at his best."
Missing Alexander-Arnold
Beyond current individuals, Warnock also highlights the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold after his controversial departure for Real Madrid over the summer.
He continued: "I also think, I know we've talked about this before, I think the effect of losing Trent in that right-back position and not having a consistent right-back playing in that position doesn't help. I don't think it helps when you lose a player of Trent's ability flooding that midfield as well.
"I think there's no coincidence that Liverpool don't dominate as many games now because they've lost Trent in that position and how teams used to drop off them because they were so fearful of his passing ability.
"And then also as well, players that have come into the football club just haven't performed yet, haven't sort of got up to speed, haven't found a rhythm of playing for Liverpool, whether it's been injuries, whether it's been a lack of fitness."
Does Isak suit Liverpool system?
The issues around £125m signing Alexander Isak is also a concern for Warnock. Indeed, the former Reds defender has questioned whether Liverpool should've pursued the Swede as hard as they did.
He explained, "I think Isak's massively suffered from not having a full pre-season. I still think he's way off where he was. But I also look at it from a stylistic point of view. Does he fit into Liverpool's style? Is he the type of player that Liverpool perhaps needed when they've got (Hugo) Ekitike, who's also a very similar player but likes to drift off that left-hand side, probably a little bit different in the way that he approaches the game.
"I just look at the way Newcastle's wingers were, both flying wingers, both look to get to bylines and take people on or run beyond the striker. Whereas if you look at Liverpool's, they don't particularly do that. (Cody) Gakpo and Salah don't particularly run in behind as much as the Newcastle players do.
"And then Isak would drop off and come deep. Whereas I think with Liverpool, he's being asked to run in behind a little bit more. Whereas for opposition defenders, everything now is in front of them and it seems very easy to play against."
