The 33-year-old forward returned to the Liverpool squad for their 2-0 win over Brighton last weekend after being pushed out of the side by Slot due to his poor form as of late.
Salah linked up with his international team-mates ahead of the 2025/26 edition of AFCON in Morocco this week but the drama regarding his interview after the 3-3 draw with Leeds United rages on.
Salah claimed that his relationship with Slot had collapsed and that the club had thrown him “under the bus”. Speaking to Liverpool.com, Souness has backed Slot over the Egyptian, who is tipped to leave in the January window.
"The club owes you nothing. For him to come out and say, ‘I don't have to fight every day in training for my place because of what I've done for this club’, and then follow up with, ‘No one's bigger than the club’ — he's acting like he's bigger than the club.
"Someone needs to tell him he's not and he never will be. No player will ever be bigger than that football club. It's an institution.
"The manager has been great in the way he's dealt with it. He didn't really have an option. But I don't believe this situation has been resolved because Salah said another thing — he said he got some promises before he signed his new contract.
"What promises? That every month the money will be in his bank account? Other than that, I can't see what other promises any player could hope for from a football club.”
Although the situation between the Dutch manager and the forward has been resolved, Salah may still leave as Saudi Pro League teams circle. Salah was the Premier League’s best player last season and there is no doubt that bids will come in for the winger.
