Liverpool boss Arne Slot admits Mohamed Salah is out of Saturday's trip to Brighton.

While Salah scored in the Champions League rout of Galatasaray in midweek, the Egypt striker has since pulled up short.

However, Slot sees a silver lining given the international break is looming.

He began this morning, "Yeah, it's an unusual one. I think you expect the outcome so he is not available for tomorrow. Good thing for LFC is we go to international break, bad news for Egypt, he can't go there.

"We hope with what Mo has shown in the past he can recovery faster than other players. He takes such good care of his body, he can be back earlier than others as history has shown. Only two weeks until we go again..."

Slot said of Salah's performance: "His first half was not too bad, whole team played well. Individuals, it's helpful if the teams play well. They can then shine. It says a lot about his mental strength but that comes with age.

"If you miss chances, older you get, you get better at handling situations like this. He has always done this really well. He has done this so well in his career, to shut it down and create a goal and an assist, it is the experience he has."

Brighton threat

Meanwhile, Slot took time to consider the style and threat Brighton will pose in tomorrow's early kickoff. While they enter the clash at Falmer stadium on the back of that 4-0 win against Gala, in the Premier League last week they were held 1-1 at home by Tottenham.

The Dutchman continued: "Styles make fights and that is everything I should say. We faced a Gala team that maybe tried to kill momentum but wanted to press and bring the ball out, they wanted to fight with us.

"I said it 150 times, it will never be about us if a game is not entertaining. Every team that wants to fight, we gave them a fight and a great game.

"But if we want to fight a team who only want to cover up then it is less atttractive, that is all I can say. We faced a Gala team who are used to being the better team in their league, you cannot compare with that most of the teams we faced this season.

"We now face an attractive and interesting style v Brighton, which makes it complicated. We put in an enormous shift, so tell me what is smart?

"Brighton has always been a team who want to play, make it intense, they have seen how intense our game was. We have played them twice, both were fascinating, high tempo, high pace."

Early kickoff

Meanwhile, Slot was also asked about Liverpool's struggles in front of goal. However, the Reds manager was adamant today the issue hasn't been with his strikers nor the chances created.

He insisted: "You are saying we are struggling to score goals in the first half? I saw we are struggling to score goals, it is unbelievable we don't score more but I don't look at when the goals were scored, we need to be ready from the start, they will make it intense.

"We had a peak Wednesday and now a 12.30 kickoff against a team and fans who want to come at us straight away. We have to be ready to face that fight.

"I don't mind at all playing 12.30 because we train usually around then. So if we could not perform at that time it is stupid to train at that time. I don't mind it all but I do mind Sunday evening, 6.20pm when we finished versus Spurs and then another game that could have went to extra time and then 12.30pm for a sixth or seventh time this season, that is not what I prefer as a manager."

Spiky

As the media conference ran on, Slot became more and more irritated by the line of questioning.

Pushed further about facing Brighton, which Liverpool have already beaten in the league and FA Cup this season, Slot stated: "They didn't score against us which is a big exception when it comes to us, 0.4xG against and we sometimes still concede, so Brighton was the exception, they want to play.

"Both our games with them have been equal, we haven't had a lot of luck but our games with them were equal and we won both."

Asked about playing Dominik Szoboszlai at fullback, Slot insisted: "I don't know how many times I say this, please keep asking me - Dominik is a midfielder, should I say this 5/6times? The moment I play him right-back, it is not because I am tactical genius, it is the best available player for the position.

"If I have full-backs 'available' in good shape, he will play there, Dom in midfield. So every time I make a lineup now there must be a reason Dom is a right full-back. He is a very good midfielder for us. I have other midfielders by the way but if I have the chance, I play him in midfield.

"If everyone is available, the team is stronger with him in midfield. If we miss a few, then Dom can play right-back and others in midfield. That is my take. If everyone is fit then the best team is not with Szoboszlai on right-back."

My contract?!

Slot, before signing off, was asked for an update on his contract. Again, the Dutchman was unimpressed with the timing of the question.

He replied: "Is this how football works? We win one and talk about a new contract?! We didn't win just one by the way, we won more than everyone thinks last few months.

"You surprise me with this question, my focus is on Brighton and before then it was getting something positive from this season. We have to fight in this season until the end, my focus is totally on that. We don't talk about contracts here."
