Fulham manager Marco Silva has praised striker Josh King for his strong mentality after a harsh start to the season.

King scored 22 minutes into the game against Chelsea at the start of the season, only for it to be chalked off following a VAR intervention for a foul by Rodrigo Muniz in the build-up.

This, on top of his stray pass against Brentford which allowed Mikkel Damsgaard to score the opening goal at the weekend has led many to feel for King who at just 18 years old has had a tough start to the season.

However, Silva has now spoken on King’s mentality which he says he has been very impressed by after so many set backs at the start of the campaign.

"I was very pleased with the way he reacted," Silva, who was speaking ahead of Fulham's Carabao Cup tie with Cambridge, said.

"Again, for a difficult moment when he made a mistake like he did in that moment, of course, that is normal; it was a bad moment for him for sure, but the reaction pleased me really well because it is not easy.

"It doesn't surprise me, to be honest. Football is going to test him, and the response from him was very good and I am very pleased."

King has started all five of Fulham's Premier League games this season, and the teenager is arguably the Cottagers’ biggest talent under Silva. The Fulham boss is trusting the youngster, who he says is mature beyond his years.

"For a young player that is 18 years old, it is always nice to see some maturity in that moment, that composure, to keep doing the good things that you were doing before."
