The former United midfielder's deal runs to the end of the season.
After defeat at Newcastle, in a now-deleted Instagram story, Scholes posted sarcastically overnight: "Michael has definitely got something special about him... cos United have been c***p last four games... night".
Scholes added a kissing face emoji, before also posting a tribute to Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, with the text "Tonali" with a love heart.
