Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed that he would love for his side to sign Tottehham's Christian Romero.

Romero was shown his latest red card for a tackle on midfielder Casemiro in Saturday's 2-0 loss at Manchester United, meaning he will be suspended not just for this week’s clash against Newcastle but for four games.

This was his sixth red card since joining the side whose fan base have become frustrated with his discipline in recent years as he continues to be reckless in defence.

Despite this, speaking on the latest episode of The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes revealed that he would love it if United stole him away in the summer.

"Do you know what? I love him. I love watching him play football.

"He’s pissed off at Spurs, isn’t he? He doesn’t want to be there. He’s having a go at the crowd, he’s having a go at the board, I think his head has checked out a little bit.

"But I would love him at Manchester United. I just love his character."

Frank had already defended Romero after Saturday's match, saying he would not consider taking the captain's armband away from the Argentina international.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with Romero, but United could swoop in over the summer in what could be one of the most controversial transfers in Premier League history.
