Saka scored in Arsenal's win over West Ham after taking a penalty instead of striker Gyokeres who has been out of form recently under manager Mikel Arteta.
When the penalty was given, many expected that Gyokeres would seize the opportunity to break his six-match goal drought but Saka stepped up and found the back of the net to grab his 100th goal contribution for the club.
“I think Viktor’s playing really, really well,” Saka said. “There’s no doubt he’s going to score goals.
“What he’s bringing to this team, us as his team-mates, we’re so grateful for what he does, how he holds the ball, how he makes the runs, the threat he gives us.
“He’s a big part in the reason why we’re winning these games. His goals will come. We know that, we believe that and we believe in him.
“I don’t think there’s any doubts. He’s still up, he’s still happy and he’s still giving his best every game.”
When asked if Gyokeres could take penalties in the future after scoring one against Leeds United, the England international smiled and implied that it could be a possibility.
“We’ll keep our conversations in the house for now,” he said. “I won’t say much more. When I grabbed the ball I wanted to take it, so that was my thoughts at the moment.”
Gyokeres will have to continue to be unselfish for Arsenal as he works behind the scenes of the club's victories. However, as a striker who broke goal scoring records last season many are confused as to why the club signed him to not be at the end of those goal scoring opportunities.
