Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has ridiculed Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko as he calls him an academy player.

Sesko has taken a lot of criticism since arriving in England, much like any United signing who fans believe will instantly turn the team around. The forward moved to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig in the summer for a whopping £74M and has since been put under the spotlight.

The Slovenia international was brought in to solve United’s toothless attack but has failed to make an impact so far under manager Ruben Amorim who, despite his form, has backed the striker so far.

Speaking to Adventure Gamers, Fowler has been less understanding as he took aim at the young forward.

"For me, I think the obvious one is Gyokeres. He's probably better suited to the Premier League, and he understands what is needed in terms of speed, energy and commitment. Whereas Sesko has probably struggled a little at times.

"He looks a little bit, I hope this doesn't come across wrong, but he looks a bit of an academy player. I have no doubt he's a good player. No one's questioning his ability, but at the minute I think out of those two, it's Gyokeres by far who looks better equipped."

Sesko has scored twice and registered an assist in 11 Premier League games so far this season, with the majority of his appearances coming from off the bench as Amorim eases him into the side.

He withdrew from the Slovenia squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden. Reports suggest he could be out for a number of weeks but should be back for December.
