Enzo Maresca's management of Chelsea's recovering players was a major breaking point between himself and the board, it has been revealed.

Maresca was sacked on New Year's Day by Chelsea and eventually replaced with Liam Rosenior, formerly of Strasbourg.

And the Daily Mail says one of the key issues between Maresca and management was his refusal to take advice from medical staff on players recovering from injury.

While he was urged to carefully manage the minutes of players not yet fully fit, the Italian preferred to make decisions on the course of games, rather than outside medical recommendations.

It reached the stage where the board wrote a formal letter to Maresca reminding him of his responsibilities regarding the treatment of players returning from injury.

Management also had Australian fitness chief Bryce Cavanagh sit inside the Chelsea dugout to remind Maresca of agreed times to remove certain players.

The perceived overreach by the board was one of the major breaking points for Maresca in the final weeks of his time at the club.
