Redknapp has revealed that his father, Harry Redknapp, was the one who hinted at a fresh twist in Semenyo's transfer saga.
The former Liverpool midfielder stated that a move to Liverpool could have been on the horizon instead of Manchester City, a piece of news that soon came to be proven false.
Semenyo signed with City in a deal worth £62.5M last week as Liverpool missed out, leading to Redknapp apologizing to fans who may have taken his words as gospel.
"I heard there was going to be a twist! And there wasn't! I'm not going to lie, Mark, sometimes you get information from people, and you expect better.
"On this occasion, my dad called me, he was at Bournemouth when Semenyo scored that incredible goal, and he said ‘I think there might be a twist and he might be going to Liverpool’. I thought ‘I'm going to say that on air’. I thought I had turned into Fabrizio Romano for five seconds, and I got it completely wrong."
The Ghanaian international was strongly linked with a move to Merseyside but the Reds never launched a bid for the winger who could have been the perfect replacement for Mohamed Salah who turns 34 years old at the end of the season.
Semenyo should feature once more against Manchester United in a major derby this weekend, a game Liverpool may be watching as they regret their decision not to make a move.
