Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has opened up to the media ahead of this weekend's game against Burnley.

With only seven points on the board after five PL games this term, this is City’s lowest tally at this stage since 2006-07 in what has been a mixed start under Guardiola, who needs to start picking up 3 points if he wants a shot at the title.

Team news

Team news was up first as Guardiola provided updates on a number of key players who are returning from injury.

"Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki, no (they are not ready). Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov, no (they are not ready). Mateo Kovacic, maybe.

"(It would help) a lot to have Kova back. It's a long injury, surgery, but he is getting ready. He is not fully ready but step-by-step."

He confirmed Erling Haaland will start this weekend: "He is ready."

Reuniting with Kyle Walker

Guardiola then moved on to facing former City defender Kyle Walker who has been impressive for Burnley since signing for them this summer.

"I'm pretty sure everybody will be happy to see him.

"It was an unbelievable few years for us and he was the right-back who defined our time here in the last nine or 10 years. I'm pretty sure he will get the gratitude of our fans.

"Absolutely he deserves it. (He is) one of the greatest full-backs ever."

Foden is back to his best

Phil Foden was the next topic of conversation and Guardiola has a ton of praise for the serial winner, who look to be back in form.

"Phil always took responsibility, he won everything since he started playing and training with us when he was 17 or 18.

"The biggest example was after he played Arsenal, everybody was exhausted and tired because he ran a lot, we parked the bus and so on. But Phil said, 'I want to play again'. It's what happened when he arrived.

"He wants to play every day and that is a sign that he is ready. We all know what Phil can do but I don't want to put pressure on him.

"His physical condition is outstanding, his mind is ready and he can play every few days. His game against Huddersfield was really, really good."

Guardiola is used to the low block

Finally, he commented on how Burnley would play, as a lot of newly promoted teams deploy a low block to fend off attacks from world-class sides like Guardiola's.

"He (Scott Parker) didn’t do it against Spurs and he did it against Liverpool. He adapts.

"There are moments to do high pressing and moments to do low block.

"We have done it for 10 years so this is the way when a team is better to read the situations that opponents offer on the table and take the solution

"At the beginning of the season everyone is so brave. As it goes forward teams see the schedule and the table, but we talk every day about what can maybe happen.

"In the past we were maybe more sure. We will see tomorrow and have to adapt."
