The Premier League champions, who completed a league double over City last season for the first time since 2015-16, head to the Etihad Stadium in what will be a game that may be crucial for the title race this season.
1000th league games is an incredible feat
League leaders Arsenal are six points clear of City and seven ahead of Liverpool, meaning 3 points are imperative for either side this weekend. Guardiola first spoke on his record as a manager before his 1,000th game on Sunday, after which he will be inducted into the League Managers’ Association.
"We have won incredibly things in Barcelona, Bayern Munich and here.
"Incredible. It's difficult to reach it and if I started again, I would not reach it. Hopefully on Sunday we can continue."
Liverpool have pushed Guardiola be a better manager
The city vs Liverpool rivalry has been going on for several years now and Guardiola was next questioned on if Liverpool have pushed him to be a better manager and if he has a favourite game between the two sides.
"Absolutely. I think we pushed Liverpool to be better and they pushed us to be better, for sure."
On his favourite game: "Of this 1,000? I could not chose one. There are a few that I have good memories - and some bad ones as well.
"It is part of the journey, you use it to get better and grow. Tomorrow the sun will rise again and you go to another one."
Has Guardiola had an impact on world football?
As he reaches his 1000th game, the Spanish head coach was next questioned on his influence on world football and says he is always adapting and learning from each game.
"I don't know. I tried to make our teams play the way I wanted. I didn't betray my feelings for one second and in that process I learnt a lot and changed many things.
"The fundamentals that I believe deep inside my heart, I did not betray once. Because if you make mistakes or the opponent is better, at least they you do not feel that you did something you do not believe.
"That never happened. Any squad, any players, any country is different so that is why I adapt."
Guardiola hopes Arsenal slip
Arsenal are currently storming ahead at the top of the table with a six point lead, Guardiola said all his side can do is continue to collect 3 points and hope Arsenal slip.
"If they continue to play games and not concede goals, it will be almost impossible.
"Always you expect that you can be better and they will drop points. All we can do is win our games and get closer.
"The last two or three years, after the process to rebuild the club and the team, they are there. It is exceptional what they are doing for two or three seasons.
"But it is early November. Nobody wins the title in early November. You can lose it - but nobody wins it."
Guardiola speaks on Liverpool's dip in form
Finally, he touched upon Liverpool's poor recent run compared to City's last season and how many pundits have already ruled them out of the title race.
"You have to live it. When you're in a long period, you have to live this. There is no one manager in one club who did not live this kind of situation.
"In 10 years, we had two or three months that were really bad. November to January or February (last season) was really bad. But the team, the culture of the club? It's fine. We had a lot of injuries, we didn't have energy, bad decisions from myself and my staff - it happens.
"What is important is how you come back. Now is not perfect, always you can do better. That's why we are here and why we've had the success we've had together.
"Sometimes the results hide the reality of where the team is in that moment."
